80-year-old man dies in hospital after Brampton house fire


Police say an elderly man died in hospital after a fire broke out at a residence in Brampton on Sunday.

emergency crews were called to the area of Bowward Drive and Sunnyvale Gatejust west of Torbram Road, shortly before 2 p.m.

Peel Regional Police (PRP) police said the fire started in the basement unit of a multi-tenant detached home.

When first responders arrived at the scene, police said, they found an elderly male suffering from “serious injuries”.

The man, whom police told CP24 was 80 years old, was asymptomatic when he was found. After performing life-saving measures, paramedics were able to regain his pulse.

The PRP told CP24 on Monday morning that he was taken to a local hospital and then to the trauma center, where he was later declared brought dead.

The fire has been doused and no casualties have been reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and the Ontario Fire Marshal is expected to visit the scene later today.

No other information has been released by the police.
