UPDATED WITH FULL WINNER’S LIST: SZA and Beyoncé won three times each at the 2023 BET Awards on Sunday, including a tie for the Album of the Year award.
The awards, which honor the best performances of the year in music, TV, film and sports, were presented live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. This year’s event celebrated 50 years of hip hop, with Busta Rhymes receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Patti LaBelle also took the stage to pay tribute to Tina Turner, but seemingly forgot the words to “Simply the Best”.
SZA also won Best Female R&B/Pop Artist and Video of the Year for “Kill Bill” tonight, while Beyoncé’s “Break My Soul” won both the Viewers’ Choice Award and the BET Her Award.
There was another contest tonight, with Chris Brown and Usher sharing the Male R&B/Pop Artist honor.
in the movie, disney/marvel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever won Best Picture, while the picture’s Angela Bassett won Best Actress. Damson Idris won the Best Actor award.
Drake scored two wins tonight as he and Glorilla come away with the most nominations with seven in total.
Some of the highlights of the night included a reunion of Offset and Quavo for a tribute to late Migos member Takeoff. It also took time for Muni Long to acknowledge the importance of writers amid the WGA strike.
