Authorities confirmed human remains were found near the search area where British actor Julian Sands went missing while hiking in January.

“Deputies from the Fontana Station along with the Sheriff’s Department’s Emergency Operations Division responded to the scene,” the sheriff said in a news release. “The deceased was taken to the coroner’s office until positive identification. Identification should be complete next week, at which time we will update this press release. No further details are available at this time.”
Discovering the Sands, a seasoned traveller, resumed on June 17 after five months, The Mount Baldy area suffered extreme weather conditions this winter, likely delaying the new discovery until the warmer climate made it safe for officials.
Although California weather has been warm in recent months, the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department reported in an earlier release, “Many areas, including steep ground and ravines, still have more than 10 feet of snow and ice.”
According to officials, more than 80 search and rescue volunteers, deputies and staff conducted the search on June 17, along with two helicopters and drone crews. The drones also searched remote areas where ground teams could not reach.
Sands, best known for his roles in “A Room with a View” and “Warlock,” was reported missing on January 13. He was hiking in the Baldy Bowl Hiking Area, about 50 miles northeast of Los Angeles.
On Wednesday, his family released a statement through the sheriff’s office, saying, “We are so grateful to the search teams and coordinators who have worked tirelessly to find Julian.
“We keep Julian in our hearts with bright memories of him as a wonderful father, husband, explorer of the natural world and the arts, and an original and collaborative artist,” the statement said.
