NEW YORK (AP) – Leandro De Niro Rodriguez, the grandson of Robert De Niro, has died at the age of 19.
His mother, Drena De Niro, announced the news in an Instagram post on Monday.
She wrote, “I don’t know how I will live without you, but I will try to move forward and spread the love and light that you made me feel when I became my mother.” “You were so loved and appreciated and I wish that love could have saved you.”
Leandro’s father, artist Carlos Mare, posted the black square on his Instagram account without caption.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of my beloved grandson Leo. We greatly appreciate everyone’s sentiments. In a statement, Robert De Niro said, “We ask that we be given privacy to grieve the passing of Leo.”
More details were not immediately available. Later on Monday, De Niro’s publicist shared another statement from Drena De Niro.
“It is with great shock and sadness that we say goodbye to our dear son Leo. We thank you for your love and support and request that we be given privacy at this time to deal with this immeasurable grief,” she said in the statement.

In response to a request to confirm the TMZ report that Leandro was found in a New York apartment, New York City police wrote that “an 18-year-old male was found unconscious, unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene by EMS”. The Wall Street address where the Cipriani Club resides. As reported by news outlets, Leandro recently turned 19.
The medical examiner’s office will determine the cause of death.
Drena De Niro, 51, is now the eldest of seven children of Robert De Niro (the 79-year-old gave birth to a baby boy earlier this year). The actor adopted her when he married her mother, Diane Abbott, who was his first wife. Drena De Niro is also an actor, with roles in “Joy,” “The Intern” and “Mozart in the Jungle” among his long list of credits.
Leandro also had acting credits to his name, including his mother in roles in three projects: 2005’s “The Collection,” and 2018’s “Cabaret Maxim” and “A Star Is Born.” In Bradley Cooper’s remake, mother and son played mother and son – wife and child to Dave Chappelle’s character.
