Johnson’s race team, Legacy Motor Club, announced on Twitter that it is withdrawing their No. 84 Caravana Chevrolet from this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series event in Chicago. The team said: “The Johnson family have asked for privacy at this time and will make no further statements.”
“We are saddened by the tragic death of Chandra Johnson’s family members,” NASCAR said in a statement. “The entire NASCAR family extends its deepest support and condolences to Chandra, Jimmy and the entire Johnson & Janeway families during this difficult time.”
