Newmarket-TE Power’s 16,320 customers were affected by a power outage in the area of Davis Drive and Bayview Avenue in Newmarket during a severe thunderstorm this afternoon.
“It’s an untenable situation at the moment,” Alex Braletic, Newmarket-Te Power’s vice president, engineering and operations, told Newmarkettoday. “Approximately 16,000 customers were knocked out due to lightning on a Hydro One line. This was a loss of power due to the Hydro One supply. Crews are currently responding.”
According to NT Power’s Twitter post, power was restored for most customers in about 40 minutes, while initial estimates put the outage time at more than four hours. NT Power Outage Map,

The City of Newmarket canceled public swimming at the outdoor Gorman Pool and Ray Twiney Recreation Complex this afternoon due to power outages and weather. However, swimming training will be held this evening, the city said.
