The Department of Finance says the grocery rebates the Liberals promised in this year’s federal budget will be extended to eligible Canadians on July 5.
The government has billed the one-time payment as targeted inflation relief for about 11 million low- and modest-income households.
This reiterates the temporary increase in GST exemptions introduced by the government last year to address concerns about the rising cost of living.
Eligible families of four will receive up to $628 by direct deposit or check from the Canada Revenue Agency, while single people without children will receive a rebate of up to $234 and seniors up to $225.
According to the federal government, the rebate will double the amount of GST/HST credit payments eligible Canadians receive in January 2023. The government says the amount is calculated based on the resident’s family status in January 2023 and their 2021 adjusted family income. Income.

If you are married or have a common-law partner

If you received your GST/HST credit payment lump sum in July 2022, you will still get the benefit of the exemption.
Those hoping to get the exemption, if they do not receive the money via check or direct deposit within 10 business days of July 5, can contact the government.
The new law also ensures a $2 billion top-up to federal health transfers aimed at reducing backlogs and wait times and supporting pediatric hospitals and emergency rooms.
