Premier Ranja Pillai issued the following statement:
“Canada Day is an opportunity to celebrate our country and all the people who call it home.
“It is a time to gather together and celebrate the culture and values that define our country at home and abroad, as well as reflect on those aspects of our history that continue to challenge us today. By recognizing these realities, we strengthen our commitment to building a more inclusive and fair society for all.
“Generation after generation, we have proven our ability to progress as a country and move forward towards advancing the values we all hold close to heart.
“Let us embrace its potential to reflect and celebrate our nation as a symbol of diversity and inclusiveness. Our differences make us stronger and by respecting each other we can create a brighter future for all of us.
“I am very excited and honored to be a part of the swearing-in ceremony aboard the SS Klondike tomorrow as we welcome new Canadians. This event and holiday reminds us that the Yukon and Canada are growing and only made better by our collective contributions.
“While enjoying the Canada Day festivities, I remind everyone to make safety a priority and take precautions while having fun. Whether indulging in outdoor activities or gathering with loved ones, let us be mindful of fire prevention and general safety measures.
“On this special day, let us be grateful for all that we have and work towards a Canada defined by compassion, equality and opportunities for all.
“Happy Canada Day, Yukon!”
